Breanna aged 7 was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at 5 years of age on December1 2000.  This changed all our lives forever.  It is part of our dream to support the cause and the hundreds of thousands of families trying to cope with Type 1 Diabetes.

Unlike Type 2 Diabetes, children of all ages and adults who are diagnosed with Type 1 have a genetic deformity brought on by an unknown trigger, therefore, the pancreas is no longer able to make one drop of insulin to regulate the amount of glucose in the bloodstream.  It is not a lifestyle disease - but a very serious, life-threatening, on-going disease that affects every member of the family.

People often assume that a couple of injections per day make everything alright and a child can live life as per normal - except blood glucose is affected by diet, exercise, stress, growth and change, emotions, weather, metabolism and much more.  Every single day is a monitoring of all the things that affect the person, and adjusting insulin to suit - all done via blood glucose readings from finger pricks 2 -10 times a day.  Quite a big ask for any parent let alone the child who's life is ruled by Diabetes.

We hope to keep this page updated with more interesting information.
